The Columbia Fiction Foundry, founded in 2009, is a community of alumni fiction writers dedicated to improving their craft and who share the goal of commercial publication. In addition to its monthly writing workshops, the Fiction Foundry also hosts a Distinguished Speaker Series which has included award-winning alumni novelists, writing program instructors, literary agents, and acquisition editors. Joining the Fiction Foundry adds an alumnus to its cyber community and to its distribution list for newsletters, articles, and events.
Joining the Columbia Fiction Foundry
The Columbia Fiction Foundry is an official Shared Interest Group of the Columbia Alumni Association. Regardless of which Columbia school you attended, if you are serious about fiction writing, then you are welcome to join and contribute.
Twice a month Columbia Fiction Foundry runs virtual and in-person workshops that are open to all Columbia alumni, students, and faculty. The virtual workshops accommodate alumni writers from across the United States and around the world who cannot participate in the group’s live gatherings, but still wish to critique others’ manuscripts and gain feedback on their own. In addition to bi-monthly workshops, Columbia Fiction Foundry hosts events with professionals from the publishing world including agents and writers.
Whatever your preference, Columbia Fiction Foundry can offer you useful resources for improving your writing and helping you navigate the publishing business.
