"Preparing Your Pages" with Folio Literary Management: A Two-Part Event

Columbia Fiction Foundry Distinguished Speaker Series
Wednesday, June 19, 2019 6:00-7:45PM & Wednesday, June 26th 6:00-7:45PM
Shapiro Conference Room, Alumni Center, 622 W. 113th St., New York, NY

What makes literary agents excited to read more? What turns them off? At this remarkable opportunity for fiction writers, Columbia alumni will have the opportunity to receive direct, immediate feedback on their work from four agents working with one of NYC’s top literary agencies.

At this unique CFF event, Folio Literary Management agents Jeff Kleinman, Erin Harris, Claudia Cross, and Sonali Chanchani will read the opening pages of workshop attendees’ novels and provide constructive feedback at two separate workshops:

Workshop #1 June 19th: Opening pages (first 5 pages) of manuscripts are presented in a group setting. Participants have the following week to revise their pages.

Workshop #2, June 26th: The same opening 5 pages are then reviewed, again in the group setting.

Submitted manuscripts will be made available to all attendees via Google Drive.

Space is limited. Only the first 20 manuscripts submitted will be reviewed, but there will be additional space for observers who do not submit work. Attendees who submit work for the first workshop are expected to return for the second workshop. The agents will review the projects on a first-come first-served basis, so keep in mind that, given time constraints, the manuscripts submitted later may not be reviewed in detail.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines:
-Five pages, Times New Roman 12, 1’’ margins, double spaced from the opening chapters of novels or narrative nonfiction (not prescriptive nonfiction) only
-Please include your name and email on the opening page of the manuscript
-Submit via email to [email protected] as a document compatible with Google Docs

Folio Literary Management is one of NYC’s top ten literary agencies, representing acclaimed and best-selling authors including Garth Stein, Eowyn Ivey, and Misty Copeland. Folio, through its subsidiary company Harold Ober Associates, also represents Ira Levin (Rosemary’s Baby), James Herriot (All Creatures Great & Small), Richard Adams (Watership Down), poets Langston Hughes and Dylan Thomas, and a host of other legendary authors.

Jeff Kleinman, Erin Harris, Claudia Cross, and Sonali Chanchani represent a broad range of fiction, from commercial to upmarket and literary fiction.
